OM NOm NOm NOm! The Maw-One Less in the Backlog Review

I "won" this game from Mc Donald's!



Back in November of last year or sometime around that, McDonald's was doing a promotion for Xbox One. Fortune did not smile upon me; I did not win an Xbox One. Though I did get two games, technically three, out of the deal; The Maw, Aqua and Ms. Spolsion Man. Owned the last one already and downloaded the other two. I started with Aqua, it is a twin stick shooter with you as a captain in this steam punk world piloting this sub/warship. It started out cool, then sort of degraded as the experience went forward, not because of the game but my adversity for games like this. I don't think I am going to beat that one. Started The Maw for shits and giggles instead.

You play as short cute little alien dude who is taken captive by some humanoid bounty hunters who look like they are rounding up the oddities of the universe in their cargo hold. The alien briefly meets the the Maw before the ship crashes on a planet. He wakes up to find the Maw licking his face like a dog. You find a cosmic leash of sorts for the Maw and you use this for the rest of your adventures. You find out that the Maw has an appetite for cute little round pink Loofers, which when consuming a number of them he increases in size. Soon the Maw's appetite grows to include larger creatures and the Maw assumes their abilities: Fire, flight, electric, lasers and a bull rush.

The graphical sense could have been easily been OG Xbox, though with the updated 360 power. The game play is like playing something from the N64 era. Reminds me a lot of Kameo of Rareware fame.

Fun, uniquely simple, and fun. You don't die. The puzzles are challenging enough you have to take a second to stop and see it. Then it is back to the fun. The game runs about 4-5 hours and the levels are quick. Every level is different with new and old abilities and environments.

Like I said the game is fun, humorous and simple. The Maw would be a great game for my wife to play or a good family game; fun and simple. Free, fun, and a GOOD INU. Great game about taking your friend/monsteraliendog for a walk.
