What smells like Call of Duty? Medal Of Honor Review
Name is Dusty. Dusty is short for Bad ass.
Well, well, well what do we have here, the Call of Duty "killer"? Medal of Honor, the EA product that was suppose to have taken down the juggernaut. It released to bad reviews and sour tastes, in my opinion because it was to have given COD a run for the money, yet it faltered. The game has its high points and low.
The game starts out on the right foot in my book, the controls are a carbon copy to COD's. I was worried going in thinking they would use the controls from the Bad Company\Battlefield series, they always seemed a little off to me, used to COD, I guess. Initial mission(oddly enough much the same as COD: Black Ops) and a set up with one the sets of main characters you fight along side throughout the game, the toilet overflows and shit splatters everywhere. We begin! The game play is what you expect, one desperate situation to the next, but in comparison to COD, I didn't feel it. Fight through it and move on.
The story, well I don't really know, it's 3 days in Afghanistan fighting the fucking Taliban, bastards. That's bout it. It's there, but not engrossing, it's disjointed and lacking cohesion or a bridge gap. The action is fast and heavy you will go from one mission to the next without skipping a beat. I played for a few hours and looked up and saw that I was on the 7th mission out of 10, well shit I'm almost done! You play as one of three military groups, the Tier 1 super secrets, the covert and the Army Rangers. Most of your time is with the first two groups which lead to some cool situations of stealth. Your group of 4 bad ass super soldiers taking out whole villages and groups of fighters. The Army Ranger sessions I really enjoyed you are a soldier and are asked to complete your duties, may it be cover fire or call in air support. It was simple and a nice change of pace from the, "Shit bitch you can't kill me, you know who I am!?", mentality of COD. The changes in pace between missions are cool. The usual sniper mission, but with some nice touches, Mr. Helicopter pilot and the changes between the three groups in the story.
I didn't play the multi player, I guess it's Bad Company, using the Frostbite engine unlike the single player that uses the Unreal 3 engine. I didn't like the single-player character animations and design, they didn't look all that realistic, got that chunky look [Gears, Army-O2 and the like] but felt very realistic otherwise; soldier load outs, optics and uniforms. Many of the missions were glitched, your group would stack up ready to go though a door and just stand there waiting for you, you'd join them and they wouldn't move. WTF? Come to find out you didn't kill this one dude hiding on the map behind the barrels in the corner, that one caught me for loop for awhile. I played this on hard, yeah it was COD on Normal, you could still take 3 or 4 shots and still shove your knife in the guy shooting you, stupid Taliban fighters.
This game is cool, but swings too many times at greatness and gives up a pop fly. They were trying really hard, you could tell, and I applaud the effort. Very different and semi-realistic telling of what our military forces face. They drop the ball story wise, I can't remember the characters all that well and I just finished it today. The mission progression is hot and heavy with nah a minute to spare between some missions. Some cool elements that stir the pot but it's kinda a bad batch as a whole.
The Rating System
1 Inu - This Inu is bad. It eats baby birds out of trees, craps in you shoes, and scares any potential female friends away with its ferocious demeanor.
2 Inu's - This Inu has been taken to obidience training, but failed. The dog tried hard, but just never got any of the tricks right.
3 Inu's - An average loveable Inu, sure its not gonna win any awards, but it is a faithful companion
4 Inu's - This Inu is special, he knows all of his tricks, everyone loves him, and he sits by your side every time you come back from the bar... alone.
5 Inu's - This is Inu is legendary. He is a dog among puppies. One day there will be movies made about how awesome he is. He gets your beer for you when you get home and never fails to get you atleast 3 phone numbers every time you take him for a walk. Oh and he growls as the fatties approach(unless your into that kind of thing).
I am going to give Medal of Honor a 3 INU's out of 5. It had it's moments of one-upping COD, but the story is what really drives a game and this it lacked. Really all it was missing, in my opinion, to give COD a run for the money. Then again I didn't play the multi player but I have played the Bad Company series so it was probably at least decent.
