Its been way too long since I have contributed anything to this little webpage that I helped create a few years back, and I suppose its about time I put fingers to keys and give Regenfall the opportunity to read something on here besides what he just wrote.
I've spent some time thinking about how much everything has changed for me in the past few years and also realized that this group has evolved with it. As we have grown, and changed, the bonds that held us all together for years have fallen away and now our communication based more on our friendship then the games that we play. It really wasn't that long ago that we were setting time aside on Friday night for clan challenges or you could put money down that on any given night someone from the SWS was pwning some n00b, but now its a rarity to find another one of our brothers online at all. Now not only are we rarely online, but apparently 2 map packs have came out for blops2 and i would be willing to bet none of us have purchased any of them. This would have been impossible to believe a few years back when I would wake up the morning they came out to start the download before I went to work.
Unlike some, I don't view this a bad thing, as we have grown up and evolved so has the brotherhood. I don't view any of you as clan members, but as friends and that really was the whole point of this group from the beginning. A perfect example of this is Karma wishing me a happy birthday, both in a post below, and in a text message earlier this morning. Its been a few months since Karma and I have seen each other online and we are still in regular contact.
Many of us have met in person, Rage took a trip to Indiana and Psia came out to Iowa(for some reason) and it really is amazing when I sit back and look at how we started to where we are now. Our lives have all changed dramatically in the past few years and yet our bond still hold true. I have moved to Chicago, Karma and Crooky have traveled the world, and Regen has welcomed a few new members in the SWS.
Anyway, there wasn't a real point to this post, I'm just proud of where we are. We hardly play games anymore and yet this semi-ironic "gang" that Regenfall and I made up while sitting at work almost has turned into just that(we have shirts for fuck sake)
Anyway if you want write a little something about how far you have come, what has changed in the last few years and see if you get the same feeling I do... I'm proud of how we have evolved and the relationships that we have all developed.
That being said... the good old days were pretty fucking awesome. Damn Regen used to be cool.
SWS out.
I'm going to start this off by saying how happy I am that you included Psychostick at the end of that video.
ReplyDeleteRan touched on all the main sentiments that I have about the group, but I'll reiterate how much it means to me that something as laughable (to some people) as an Xbox Live clan has introduced me to and helped me keep in touch with a group of awesome guys that I can really relate to as good friends, in spite of never meeting face to face (yet). While I constantly worry about how my friends at school think of me, I know for a fact that I can hop onto Black Ops and spend quality time with you guys without fear of judgment of my personality, sense of humor, taste in alcohol, or K/D ratio (which, admittedly, has improved since I joined the SWS, so thanks for that).
As I typed that paragraph, I thought of referring to my school friends as my "friends IRL," but I quickly realized that the SWS are no longer just people on my XBL friend's list, or just gaming buddies - y'all are IRL friends. This has especially become the case since we progressed from just Live to the blog, and from that to Facebook. I used to brag about how I could identify you guys by voice when we were chatting mid game - now I can put a face to the voice, and lives to the faces. Ranvier graduated, and has a loving girlfriend who he'll eventually marry, and he'll invite us clowns to dress in pink/purple tuxes to celebrate. Regen and Saint both have beautiful families, and Rage is moving on from his military career to greener pastures. And Psia... well, he's still gay.
I look forward to eventually meeting you guys in person. And I'll be wearing my SWS shirt with pride.
ROAST BEEF!
Karma out.
You'all sound like a bunch of sad, crying bitches. Shit bitch; Ran, I still be cool.
