Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock...One less in the Backlog Review
It has been a long time since I was able to write a review or even play viddy games. I kinda have been busy child rearing and stuff, so there's that. I decided it was time to shred my way back into the backlog and try to get some of these games beaten.
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock was a delightful romp into the plastic shaped guitar realm that is rhythm games of the past. This had a story, which was fun and gave the much loved characters of the past GH games some new breath. I figured most of you have played the GH series in some way or another and remember the stereotypical cast. The punk rocker, goth chick, death metal, classic rock, that niche of hair metal. Some new characters are added to the mix and each of these characters go though a transformation becoming more powerful than before. Though these transformations they gain powers; star power boosts and streak boosts.
The story goes you need to awaken the demigod of rock (voiced by Gene Simmons) to defeat evil or something. To do so you must find and recharge the axe of the gods. This is found in a cave and to release it you play the whole set of Rush's 2112 which is epic and a fitting salute to Rush's music. You roll though the set lists of each character until you must recharge the axe of the gods and awaken the demigod of rock. While not an engrossing story, the transformations were cool and the set lists varied greatly.
The set lists range from the Ramones to Megadeth and crosses the entire gambit of music. Most of the music is streamed toward the guitar, as the developers had intended, if I remembered right. Which was awesome considering, isn't that why the no-talent of us play these games? To feel as if we are Steve Vai making it talk. There was a nice ramp up of the set list difficulty up until the end when all hell breaks loose and your fingers are trying frantically trying to keep up with Megadeth shreds. All in all, a great overall music collection.
Still if you played one Guitar Hero, you played them all, other than a story of sorts and new music, really nothing groundbreaking. Some new powers add a twist, but still, it's just Guitar Hero. I own damn near all of them and the reason I keep coming back is for the chance to shred my Fisher-Price guitar like Slash and do weird faces when I am tweaking the tremolo bar on a solo. Better than the last, 3.5 INUS. Ran into the ground but still has a place in my heart, the last of the GH series (for now) rocks hard.
Back to the Backlog.
SWS out.
