Hello again faithful readers! I thought I would drop by this old dusty blog that no one reads anymore and see how you all are doing? This is usually the time of year that video gaming, and by proxy, the SWS drops off a little bit. Some of us are on college break and probably trying to get a job, or complaining about how we wished we were back at school. Concert tours start to ramp up and baseball gets going. Others find our way from our dark basements into this strange place that smells funny and is very bright and usually rather hot, I believe I have heard this space referred to as “outside”.
For those of you who have not seen this strange “room” of sorts in the past few months be warned, after months of sitting inside and starring at your tv it can be a strange and scary place. That sound you hear? Chances are its birds, maybe a dog barking. Do not be frightened it’s perfectly normal. That smell? That’s that smell of freshly cut grass. Why is my skin all red you ask? Well, it’s because you have become so pale over your hibernation period in-doors that even the slightest gleam of sunlight can turn your pasty skin into a peeling red mess. Why do I seem to be damp when it’s hot out? Well, here is hoping that it’s just sweat and you haven’t had an accident. Don’t worry; very soon your videogames will be begging you to return.
Now I know that this all sounds pretty bleak, but don’t worry I believe that the next video gaming season is going to be one of the best that I have ever seen. Now it has come to my attention that there is some sort of festival or convention going on where people talk about and show off video games. Who knew right? Anyway this “expo” has led me to believe that the next few months are going to be amazing. I didn’t do any actual research on the release dates of the games below, I’m sure I heard or read them along the lines somewhere, so if I am wrong on a release date or forget a game, my bad, but you should probably be going to a more legitimate website for your game news anyway. Yeah you know I’m right.
So this, to the best of my knowledge, is the list of must-haves that are coming out in the 6 months after summer.
Gears of War 3
Modern Warfare 3
Battlefield 3
Uncharted 3
Resistance 3
Saints Row 3
Mass Effect 3
Dead Island
Skyrim
Rage
Assassins Creed: Revelations
Those are what come to mind, for some reason I feel like I’m forgetting something. If I missed a game or there is something that you are excited about that I am not, feel free to post it in the comments. So, on first blush it looks like we can call it the fall/winter/spring of the trilogy. There are a ton of games that are (possibly) ending on that list which will probably make for one of the greatest(and most expensive) seasons in awhile, but it will also leave a huge hole in the game market looking forward. It’s hard for me to imagine my xbox without Gears, Mass Effect and possibly A Creed(I have no clue if this is ending or not). Same goes for the ps3, a system without Uncharted, Resistance, or Killzone just seems odd. However, I’m sure that new games will rise up, or like Halo some of these series will end up being extended. I know my fingers are crossed for Mass Effect, there is tons of room in that franchise for expansion.
I know that Regen and I will be waiting in line for Gears? Anyone else here play that? How about Skyrim? It’s always nice to find a fellow nerd to talk about where to find the best sword. Even though every true Elder Scrolls player already knows what the best sword is. I just started playing InFamous and LBP. Is there anyone else here that owns a ps3? I am literally about to start counting the days for Mass Effect 3. Im pretty sure Karma is in the same boat with me. Has anyone played LA Noir?
Furthermore, I know that we have always founded this clan on Call of Duty. Sure, we branch off on occasion but that is pretty much what we do around here. I think that Black Ops is going to be the end of the series, at least to the extent that our group plays. Yes I know MW3 is not out yet. I am putting most of my chips on Battlefield 3 and I have a feeling, if all goes well, that some (or most of us) might be playing that instead, or at least more than MW3. Don’t get upset I’ve been wrong before. Maybe MW3 will win me over and in January I will be sitting here writing about how it deserves my GOTY award for 2011. I hope they prove me wrong, but I see the storm in the distance and the days of us all playing one game for months and months seem to be winding down.
That being said, I know that some of us are still on and playing Ops frequently. As usual, send me a text if you want to play, unfortunately I am usually home. I think I can speak for Regen as well. So like I said drop a line in here if there is something you want to talk about. See a movie? Write a review. This is typically the time when some of us have more time, and yet it always seems that we drift apart a bit. I know you are sad too, don’t be like that. Oh and wear sunscreen.
I'm definitely holding my breath for Skyrim and ME3, as well as AC Revelations. I'll be overseas when Skyrim comes out, so I'll be a bit behind until I return, but the trailers and gameplay demos look gorgeous :D
